From now on, my new work of art 'De Kapitalist' is displayed in Museum Arnhem. Artistic transformation is important in many of my projects. As an artist, I always place myself in the middle of my work and art, as narrative object, as a carrier, as a starting point or end product.
My solo exhibition 'I want it to be soft' inspired me to make a new piece of art in which I denounce the reality of artistry. With 'De Kapitalist', a realistic sculpture from silicone, I give expression to questions about status, income, appreciation and identity of an artist. The lifelike self-portrait is a contemporary variation of the classical artist's bust. Complete with piercings and gold necklace, my head is captured in a bubble gum machine. The balls contain a souvenir of De Kapitalist.
'De Kapitalist' will be on display until November 19th 2017.
'De Kapitalist' has been established with support from Fonds21, Stimuleringsfonds voor de creatieve industrie and VSBfonds.
